Bill To Regulate Drones Passes Michigan House

Lawmakers in the Michigan House have given the thumbs up to regulating the recreational use of drones.

They passed a bill Thursday outlining where you can and cannot fly one.

The bill’s sponsor, State Representative Kurt Heise, says under the legislation you couldn’t use a drone to interfere with first responders, such as police officers or firefighters, guards at a state prison or county jail and utility workers.

It would also be illegal to fly a drone near an airport or to use one to spy on someone.

People who break the proposed new law could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

The measure now moves over to the Michigan Senate.
