Bill Would Prohibit Lawmakers Kicked Out From Running In Special Elections

Posthumus-Lyons, LisaLegislation to prohibit lawmakers who are kicked out of office from running again in a special election is slated for a hearing Wednesday in the Michigan House.

State Representative Lisa Posthumus-Lyons introduced the bill Tuesday.

She first hinted at the measure after former State Representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat lost re-election bids in the special primary elections to fill their seats in November.

Courser-GamratThe two announced they would run for their open seats shortly after Courser resigned from the House and Gamrat was expelled.

Courser and Gamrat were arraigned Tuesday on charges they lied under oath while testifying before a special House committee last September.
