Bills Banning Coerced Abortions Clear MI House

Lawmakers in the Michigan House, on their last session day before adjourning for spring break, cleared a pair of bills to ban coerced abortions in the state.

State Representative Amanda Price, R-Holland, sponsored one of the two bills and says a woman should never be forced to or talked in to having an abortion.

However lawmakers opposed to the bill, such as State Representative Sarah Roberts, D-St. Clair Shores, say there is already a law on the books to prohibit coerced abortions so there’s no need for the legislation.

Both bills passed the House mostly on party line votes. The measures now advance to the Michigan Senate.
