Legislation introduced in Lansing would allow schools to stock a drug that helps reverse drug overdose.
Under the bills, schools could keep on hand naloxone, also known as narcan, which can reverse the effects of overdoses of opioid drugs like Vicodin, Percocet and heroin.
State Senator Dale Zorn is one of the legislative sponsors.
He says the fact is there is heroin in schools and they have to provide the opportunity to schools to react to an emergency.
He says the bills also include training requirements for administering the drug and provides immunity from criminal and civil liability for school employees who administer naloxone.
Similar legislation has been enacted in at least six other states.
