Body of Missing Marquette Man Found, Murder Suspected

The body of a man that was found Tuesday in Marquette County has been identified, and the cause of death has been determined to be murder.

A forensic autopsy performed at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo confirmed that the victim is 58-year-old Jody Dean Howe of Marquette.

Howe disappeared nearly a year ago.

Reports at the time indicated he had last been seen at his home on August 21, 2019. Michigan State Police officials, however, now say that Howe appears on a video surveillance recording from the morning of August 23, 2019, at the Meijer store in Marquette. He was reported missing five days later.

Investigators have not released further details, including the location where Howe’s body was found, the means used to confirm his identity, the suspected means of his death, or why they believe it was a homicide.

They are asking for help from the public. Anyone with information pertaining to Howe’s disappearance and death is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Kevin Ryan at the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post at 906-475-9922.
