Boil Water Advisory Expanded

The “boil water” advisory stemming from the recent water main repair in Adams Township has been expanded.

The Western U.P. Health Department now says the advisory is in effect for all municipal water customers in Adams Township (Atlantic Mine and all parts north), Portage Township, the City of Hancock, and Quincy and Franklin Townships – any areas that receive water from the Adams Township system.

Water used for cooking, drinking, ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for at least two minutes. The order includes restaurants and other food preparation services, as well as residential users.

The advisory could remain in effect for another two or three days, until the system tests clean.

Houghton city water comes from a different source. City officials say their system is fine, and boiling is not necessary.
