  • Calumet defeated Houghton 68-50. Celia Kilunen led the Copper Kings with 19 points, and Elli Djerf added 18. Maryellen Trewhella scored 24 for the Gremlins.
  • Hancock lost to West Iron County 45-36. Taylor Sebbas scored 10 for the Bulldogs.
  • Lake Linden-Hubbell stopped Republic-Michigamme 55-33.
  • Chassell outscored Jeffers 64-41.
  • L’Anse fell to Ishpeming 70-65 in overtime.
  • Baraga got past Ewen-Trout Creek 46-38.
  • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City lost to Watersmeet 46-41.

Michigan Tech’s Abbie Botz has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Botz scored 39 points in the Huskies’ wins over Saginaw Valley State University and Northwood University.


The Detroit Pistons won their fourth straight contest, defeating the Washington Wizards 121-112 last night. Andre Drummond had another big game, with 32 points and 17 rebounds. Blake Griffin scored 31 points. Thon Maker left the game with a cut lip, but returned after it was sewn up with five stitches. The Pistons visit the Boston Celtics tomorrow.
