Calumet Man Killed in ATV Mishap

A Calumet man is dead following an ATV crash in Calumet Township Thursday afternoon.

Michigan State Police LogoTroopers from the Michigan State Police post at Calumet say 54-year-old James Meshbesher drove his ATV up to a decommissioned train trestle along Trail Three near Portland Street around 5:30. At the top of the embankment, he tried to turn around, and lost control. The ATV went airborne, and both it and Meshbesher landed on the trail. Meshbesher was able to call for help. He was taken to UP Health System Portage by Mercy Ambulance, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Troopers say alcohol does appear to have been a factor in the crash. Their investigation continues.
