Calumet Theatre reworking insurance policy

The Calumet Theatre is dark for the month of December. Board President Dan Jamison says the organization is reworking its insurance policy with the help of the Leveque Agency.

What I did was get the $2 million basic liability and an additional $1 million balloon liability and a liquor liability fund. For that, since they serve beer and wine, it seems pragmatic to have a policy like that in place as opposed to previously, where we just didn’t have those coverages.

Jamison says the new policy is more tailored for the entertainment industry compared to the general operational focus of the prior one. There is no timeframe for when it will go into effect as the holidays can cause unforeseen delays.

Tonight at 6:45 the Calumet Village Council will hold a special meeting focusing on the theatre lease. Jamison says he has attended prior meetings since being selected for his new role as board president. He reiterates what he said in those gatherings. Jamison wants both the Village and Theatre Company to be more active in cooperating together on the facility.

What I’m going to try to do is suggest they do a partnership agreement as opposed to simply landlord lease.

So far, the council has only consulted with its municipal attorneys on the lease. Redrafting the document is in its very preliminary stages.
