Canvassers Reject Petition to Recall Governor Snyder

The Michigan Board of State Canvassers rejected petition language attempting to recall Governor Rick Snyder Friday.

The language was submitted by Detroit pastor Angelo Scott Brown who wants to recall the governor for gross negligence for allowing the high lead levels in Flint water.

He says it’s time for the governor to step aside and allow Michigan to go forward.

But lawyer, John Pirich, who is representing the governor’s office, says the petition was defective because the decision to switch Flint from the Detroit water system to the Flint River was made by the Flint city council, not the governor, and was not made in the governor’s current term.

The switch is what’s blamed for spiking lead levels in Flint water.

The canvassers rejected the petition language saying it was both untimely and not factual.

Responding to the recall attempt, the governor’s spokesman, Dave Murray, says they respect Brown’s participation in the democratic process and the governor remains focused on moving forward with Michigan’s comeback.
