Closing of an Era- Last Day of Classes at Finlandia

The 126 years of Finlandia classes comes to a close today.

The rich history of the college, which originally aimed to preserve the local Finnish history and tradition, evolved into a liberal arts college. Finlandia also became known to offer incredible Associates and Bachelors degrees in the healthcare field.

The closing of the historic university saddened many.

“We got the news, it was a really sad day. They cancelled school that day. Everybody came to the dorms, it was kind of quiet in here.” – First year student from California, Jordan Haley.

“Everybody’s trying to keep a positive mindset about it right now, it’s been super sad but, like students-wise, everybody’s pretty sad, but the teacher’s and everybody is trying to cheer us up, so we had a little event yesterday. So we’re bringing in [mindsets] to bring the energy up, everybody is just happy that it’s the last week. Next week- finals and everybody just getting out of here. I would do this all over again if I could.” – First year student from Las Vegas, Nevada, Crenston Choute.

Spring commencement will take place in the afternoon on May 7th, with a gathering in the evening open to the public to pay respects to the university.
