Coast Guard Rescues Inflatable Duck, Cautions Bathers

The United States Coast Guard is reminding swimmers at Great Lakes beaches to keep track of their flotation devices.

The caution comes after a large, inflatable yellow duck was spotted Monday off Grand Beach, just north of the Michigan-Indiana border on Lake Michigan.

The Coast Guard was obliged to deploy a boat and a helicopter, in case someone riding on the duck had fallen off, and needed to be rescued. The search was called off when no one was reported missing.

The inflatable duck was recovered.

Officials say that, if you lose track of such an object, report it to law enforcement, so they don’t fear the worst if someone sees it.
