Community Leaders Come Together For Calumet

There are plenty of obstacles, but that’s not stopping Calumet from moving forward.

Community leaders and many of those who care about their town’s future gathered Monday for Pizza and Politics at the Keweenaw Heritage Center.

Updates were given on the status of the downtown, maintaining the village and economic development.

Executive Director of Main Street Calumet Leah Polzien says the biggest need they have is for people to step up.

Village Administrator Rob Tarvis sees a great opportunity here if the people of Calumet are willing to work together.

Several redevelopment projects are underway, as presented at the meeting by Executive Director of the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance Jeff Ratcliffe.

Calumet will celebrate their 150th anniversary this year in August.

The next planning meeting for the event will be held at the Calumet Colosseum on April 27th.
