Conflict of Interest Charged in Internet Gambling Effort

Is there a conflict of interest on the Senate bill to legalize internet gambling?

Senator Mike Kowall is the leader of the bill that would allow state casinos to offer internet gambling.

That bill is backed by a firm that employs his wife, Eileen, as a lobbyist.

Kowall says because his wife isn’t working directly on the bill, there’s no conflict.

But activists who claim Michigan has some of the weakest ethics laws in the country, believe passage of the bill would be a financial boost to his wife’s company.
