Crops In Danger Because Of Drought

Farmers are starting to get concerned about the dry conditions and their crops especially corn, soybeans and wheat.

Kate Krepps with the Michigan Farm Bureau says while some areas of the state have been fortunate to get rain, for the most part it’s been a “rough” year.

Krepps says it’s still too early to say how much damage, if any, the dry conditions will do because rain is in the forecast and there is still time to have a successful and bountiful harvest.

Krepts says the weather is one thing farmers can’t control and new technologies can’t make up for the lack of rain.

Krepps says Michigan’s not alone, farmers in Indiana and Iowa are facing drought conditions as well.

The Western Upper Peninsula is one of the few parts of the state not experiencing a drought.
