Deadly House Fire in Powell Township

FIREThe Michigan State Police at the Negaunee Post are investigating a fire that took the life of a 59-year-old woman. Cheryl Girard died Friday night when her house in Powell Township caught fire. The home is a total loss and the cause of the fire is not yet known. A fire department spokesman says it was impossible to enter the building for a rescue attempt. Some four hours later, when fire crews were able to enter the house, they found Girard’s body.
