Democrats Push For Expanded Civil Rights For LGBT Community

Senate Democrats are urging that chamber’s Republican leadership to move on a bill to expand Michigan’s civil right’s law to cover gay and transgendered people.

A group of 10 Democrats signed a letter sent to the Senate Majority leader to take up an expansion of the Elliott-Larsen Act.

Senator Coleman Young II was one of them.

He says those opposed to the expansion are out of step with public opinion. The bill awaits action in a Senate committee.
