Detour Returns To Bridge

Lane closures on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge means motorists will have to detour through downtown Houghton again before crossing the bridge.

The contractor for the Michigan Department of Transportation will be doing deck repairs on the bridge, part of ongoing necessary maintenance work.

This work will require closing the inside northbound and southbound lanes on the bridge, resulting in a ramp closure and detour.

The northbound M-26 ramp in Houghton will be closed and traffic will be routed through the downtown.

An alternative route would be to use Sharon Avenue to get to College Avenue.

The detour begins Monday is expected to last about a week.
