Economic Impact of the Ski Races

When you bring in people from across the country, it is sure to provide an economic boom to the local area. That was the case this week as the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships were held in Houghton at the Michigan Tech Trails. Restaurants and hotels are usually the first to benefit from the influx of people in town but Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cheryl Fahrner says there’s more to it.

Arnie Ronis at Down Wind Sports in downtown Houghton says his shop has been packed this week.

The races will continue today with the competition wrapping up tomorrow.
