Educators and Tax Reform Advocates Want Offshore Corp Loopholes Closed

Educators and tax reform advocates are calling on Congress to close offshore corporate tax loopholes.

Linda Teeter of Americans for Tax Fairness and Michigan Citizen Action says each year Michigan loses $3.3 billion in state revenue to loopholes that allow corporations to avoid paying taxes on profits hidden overseas.

President of the Michigan Education Association, Steve Cook, says the state has an education crisis fueled, in part, by companies using these tactics to avoid paying their fair share in taxes.

David Hecker of American Federation of Teachers Michigan says the state needs that money to fund priorities in the state.

He says schools, roads and transportation systems need the investment.

The group says it’s time for lawmakers to stand with working Americans to make sure their kids get a good education rather than with big corporations shifting jobs and profits offshore.
