Elk Season A Success

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the 2014 elk hunt was a success. A news release from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources says elk hunters harvested 78 elk during this year’s elk hunting season. Each killed elk was inspected by DNR staff. Wildlife biologist Jennifer Kleitch says the harvest helps the DNR to track the health of the elk herd and other wildlife information. It also helps control the population. The season had two hunt periods, the first in August and September and the second in December. Because the first two seasons achieved management objectives, the DNR says there will not be a January hunt.
