EMS Good Samaritan Bill Signed in to Law

EMTs and paramedics are protected from getting sued if they provide emergency medical care while off duty under a bill signed in to law by the governor.

The measure passed the House last month and cleared the Senate in October.

Previously only doctors and nurses had Good Samaritan protections.

Providing care during an emergency, such as a car accident, or at a sporting event would be okay under the legislation.

State Senator Goeff Hansen sponsored the bill.

The former firefighter and EMT says he’s helped people hurt in car crashes and when kids have gotten hurt at football games while off duty.

And even though Hansen did lend a hand then he says it would have been nice to not have to worry about being liable.
