Fatal Car Accident in Ishpeming

A 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead on scene Friday morning following a two car accident on US-41 in Ishpeming. The Ishpeming Police say Samantha Lee Bonovich of Ishpeming Township was turning left out of a Family Dollar parking lot between two National Guard trucks at about 10:30 am. The trucks were both in the eastbound outside lane and were stopped for a red light. When she tried to move to the westbound side, an eastbound dump truck that was approaching the stoplight in the inside lane hit her. The young woman died at the scene. The dump truck driver, 46-year-old Jeffery Alan Johnson of Marquette, was treated at Bell Hospital for minor injuries and released. Police say the truck had a full load of dirt in the bed at the time of the accident. The incident is still under investigation.
