Gas Price Future Predicted

Michigan’s gas prices might not flirt with the $3 per gallon mark this year, but it will be heavily dependent on the oil refineries in the Chicago area.

AAA Michigan’s Susan Hiltz says the auto club is predicting the national average will rise to $2.56 in June and July, but not go any higher.

The pump prices will start moving up when stations switch to the summer blends.

Michigan’s all-time record high was $4.25 a gallon on May 4, 2011, while the highest diesel price ever recorded in the state on average was $4.85, hit on July 17, 2008.

Hiltz says prices are expected to fall about a dime or so in the coming weeks before starting to creep higher in February.
