Gasoline Costs Spike

Holiday travelers experienced some the highest gasoline costs we’ve seen in some time in Michigan. AAA says prices have climbed nationwide because of OPEC’s recent decision to limit production. Prices were driven a bit further up here in the Midwest because a section of BP’s big refinery in Whiting, Indiana was shut down for maintenance. That closure was expected to last only a few days. In the week leading up to Christmas, the average price of unleaded regular climbed 14 cents per gallon in Michigan, to $2.39. That was the largest increase in the nation. AAA anticipates prices could drop down a bit next week, as travel lessens, and the Whiting refinery returns to full production.
