Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has appointed Michigan Tech President Glenn Mroz to the board of the Michigan Education Trust (MET).
MET is a prepaid college tuition plan that enables families to pre-purchase tuition based on today’s tuition rates. The plan then covers the future cost of tuition when the child reaches college.
“Glenn has a distinguished career in education and will be a tremendous asset to this board,” Snyder said.
Mroz will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2015. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
“It’s a responsibility to help at the State level that I don’t take lightly,” said Mroz. “The MET program holds funds, but most importantly, it holds a promise for young Michiganders’ education. It’s an honor to be able to help out.”
MET can be used at any Michigan public university, college or community college. If a student chooses to attend a private or out-of-state institution, the money in the MET plan can be refunded to that institution.
Contributions to a MET prepaid tuition plan are tax deductible.
