Legislation designed to help disabled veterans with service dogs avoid problems when entering a business has been signed into law by the governor.
State Representative Tom Barrett, a sponsor, says the bills expand protections not given to veterans with invisible wounds, like post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injury, under the American Disabilities Act.
He says the legislation aims to provide disabled vets with identification, tags and a patch for their dog’s vest.
Barrett says it will make it easier for business owners to identify the dogs as service animals.
The bills also create penalties for people who misrepresent their dogs as a service animal.
