In high school hockey last night…
– Houghton blanked Negaunee 8-0.
– Hancock built a 4-0 lead early in the second period… then gave up six consecutive goals, and lost to Kingsford 6-4. Five of the Flivvers’ goals came in the third period.

Houghton is again ranked second in the state in Division III in the latest Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association rankings. Cranbrook Kingswood is ranked first. Hancock is rated eighth in the state.

– Calumet remained unbeaten with a 62-25 rout of Ontonagon,
– Hancock came back from a 14-point deficit to beat L’Anse 47-42.
– Houghton smothered Jeffers 68-31.
– Dollar Bay shut down Chassell 42-23.
– Baraga nearly threw a shutout, beating Republic-Michigamme 40-4.

– Dollar Bay lost a 67-65 heartbreaker at Watersmeet. Kevin Stevens hit the winning shot with two seconds remaining for the Nimrods.
– Ewen-Trout Creek fell to Ironwood 68-50.

Both Finlandia basketball teams play at Gogebic Community College tonight.

NHL – Red Wings Beat Sabres
Petr Mrazek made 25 saves last night, as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-1. Darren Helm, Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar scored for Detroit. The Wings skate at St. Louis tomorrow night. Face-off is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Tests have confirmed that Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard has a slight groin tear. He’s expected to miss two to four weeks.

NBA – Pistons Host Pelicans
The Detroit Pistons host the Pelicans tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
