Hancock Public Schools Accepts Koskela’s Resignation, Seeks Two New Board Trustees

Hancock Public Schools will plan to meet next week for another special meeting in order to appoint two new trustees to the board. Last night, in front of a much lighter crowd, the school board accepted the third trustee resignation within the past week. Trustee Steve Koskela informed the board of his resignation on Tuesday citing the board current state, and an inability to balance both responsibilities to the district and others.

So we need to accept the resignation of Steve Koskela, board trustee. He resigned, on Monday, I’m sorry, Tuesday. I stand corrected Tuesday. And Steve said that with everything going on with the board operations right now, he just doesn’t have the time to give it the full efforts, so.” – Catherine Jordan, President, Hancock Public Schools

Hancock public schools will ask those interested in sitting on the board submit their application by August 11th. As well as include a cover letter addressing three questions related to the candidates perception of the board’s responsibilities, and goals for the district.

We would like to have everyone that expressed interest when we replaced Randy Heinonen, to resubmit their application. So we know exactly what everybody’s interest is. And where we are with everybody. But we are going to have them answer three questions; What contributions can you make to the school board? What qualities and experience could you bring to the school board? And what do you view as the roles, responsibilities, and duties of the Hancock Public School board. I am proposing to have them turned in no later than noon on August 16th.” – Catherine Jordan, President, Hancock Public Schools

Applications should be submitted to the Board of Education Secretary Michael Lancour. The school board will plan to hold a special meeting next week in order to appoint the new trustees ahead of the board’s regular august meeting, where they will be needed to vote on various action items in time for the start of school.
