In high school volleyball last night…
– Houghton won the Copper Spike with a 3-0 victory over Hancock.
– Calumet swept Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-14).
– Baraga and West Iron County triangular at L’Anse – not reported.
– Dollar Bay v Watersmeet – not reported.

In high school football tonight…
– Houghton plays at Hancock in the annual Copper Bowl game. Our pregame coverage begins around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– Calumet tunes up for the playoffs at home against Gladstone.
– L’Anse travels to Munising – the Purple Hornets need a win tonight to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.

The Finlandia University volleyball team swept Silver Lake College 3-0 last night. The volleyball team wraps up its regular season with matches against Mount Mary University and Grace Bible College in Milwaukee today.

The Finlandia men’s soccer team plays at Iowa Wesleyan College this afternoon, and at Webster University Sunday at noon. The women’s soccer team visits Maranatha Bible University tomorrow afternoon.

The Finlandia football team entertains Trinity Bible College tomorrow.

MLB.com is reporting that the Milwaukee Brewers will hire Derek Johnson as their new pitching coach. Johnson has spent the past three seasons as the Cubs’ Minor League pitching coordinator. Before that, he was the pitching coach at Vanderbilt University, where his successes included a young David Price.

In last night’s NFL game, the Seattle Seahawks shut down the San Francisco 49ers 20-3.
