Hundreds of people came out to protest the state’s handling of the Flint water crisis before and during the governor’s State of the State address Tuesday night.
Cheryl Weston, a nurse, told a crowd gathered across from the Capitol the governor owes the people of Flint more than just an apology.
She says the state owes kids especially a long-term commitment to mitigate the effects of lead poisoning.
As the governor began his speech, protestors surrounded the Capitol. At times, their chants could be heard over the governor’s address.
No protestors were arrested however the vice chair of the state’s Capitol Commission – which manages the Capitol – says the building was damaged by protestors.
