Investigation Continues Into U.P. Prison Violence

Corrections officials are investigating a series of fights at Kinross Prison in the Upper Peninsula that sent an inmate and a prison sergeant to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz says the fights began about 2:30 Monday afternoon and spread throughout the prison for over an hour.

Gautz says it’s not clear what caused the violence.
