IRS Scam Notice

The Michigan State Police Calumet Post has been receiving a high volume of calls regarding telephone calls supposedly from the IRS.

Residents report that callers claiming to be from the IRS are leaving messages or instructing people to contact them regarding unpaid tax bills.

Many of these calls are urgent sounding, automated, and leave call back numbers.

Troopers would like to remind the public that these calls are not legitimate and do not originate from the IRS.

Troopers advise to immediately hang up, do not give out any personal information and to no re-contact any numbers provided.

Incidents may be reported to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration by using their IRS Impersonation Scam Reporting Web page or by calling 1-800-366-4484.
