Keweenaw County Man Being Sent Back To North Dakota To Face Child Rape Charges

An Ahmeek man is headed back to North Dakota where he is expected to be charged with having sex with a minor.

45-year-old Shane Karrio appeared in 97th District Court Wednesday where he waived his extradition hearing.

Karrio was arrested Tuesday after being interviewed by a detective from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post at the request of law enforcement from North Dakota.

The suspect was allegedly living in Williston, North Dakota when he is said to have sexually abused an underage girl between September 2012 and May 2013.

According to the laws of that state, Karrio will be charged with Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, a Class AA felony which is punishable by life in prison.

He is expected to be sent back to North Dakota to be arraigned within the next 30 days.
