Keweenaw Energy Summit

Could Houghton and Keweenaw counties be powered 100% through renewable sources? The Keweenaw Renewable Energy Commission thinks so and they’ll be presenting their plan this morning at the Keweenaw Energy Summit being held at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock. The plan includes how the two counties can generate all of their electricity through solar, wind and biomass resources. Sam Lockwood from the KREC says changes in how energy is produced in the U.P. are needed as soon as possible. He adds that the plan does include an increase in economic development in the area.

The summit begins at 9 o’clock and will continue until 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
