Kitchen To Be Renovated At The Houghton County Jail

Inmates in the Houghton County Jail will soon benefit from a new kitchen.

The design for renovating the old kitchen and putting on an addition for a walk-in cooler/walk-in freezer were approved by the Houghton County Board of Commissioners at their final meeting of 2015 Tuesday.

The project still needs to be put out to bid so the board did not know what the expected cost of the renovation would be.

The board also approved a number of contracts as the calendar year closes out.

Those included the Courthouse and Airport Union contracts as well as the contract for the County Administrator.

The board also approved a Road Commissioners compensation package and raises for County appointed and elected officials were approved.

Details of these items were not discussed at the meeting.

The board also heard a presentation regarding agriculture trends, threats and opportunities in Houghton County by local farm owner Alan Aho.
