KRC to Assist in Energy Efficiency Study

Michigan Tech’s Keweenaw Research Center is partnering with another organization to do their part in finding solutions to the U.P.’s energy efficiency issues. Along with the Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Regional Commission, the KRC is looking to research affordable energy options for industrial parks. This week, the collaboration received funding through the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Local Technical Assistance program which will be used during their studies that are set to take place starting this month and last until April 2016. The study will encompass many energy options including solar, wind and geothermal. Houghton County Memorial Airport Industrial Airpark will be among the parks where the solutions found in the studies will be applicable.
