Lawmaker Wants Legislature to be FOIA’d

A Detroit-area Democrat is renewing a push to make the legislature and governor subject to Freedom of Information Act requests.

Michigan is one of two states where the legislature and governor’s office are exempt from FOIA requests.

A bill to change that was introduced in March.

State Representative Jeremy Moss says the House’s refusal to release mountains of evidence in an internal investigation into misuse of taxpayer resources by two lawmakers strengthens the argument to pass the bill.

The House has pledged to release hundreds of pages of evidence but only after a special committee wraps up its hearings to determine the fate of State Representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat.
