Lawmakers React To Kalamazoo Shootings

State lawmakers are reacting to the weekend’s mass shootings in the Kalamazoo area that left six dead and two injured.

State Senator Margaret O’Brien, who represents Kalamazoo, says there is no explanation for the events that occurred.

She says the shooter may have tried to weaken the community, but he failed.

She says, rather, the community is celebrating the lives of the victims and is rallying together.

Senator Mike Nofs, who represents Battle Creek, where four of the victims were from, says the community will continue to honor the memory of the victims and will keep praying for the recovery of 14-year-old Abigail Kopf, who survived but remains in critical condition.

Nofs also commended the coordination between the local police department, sheriff’s department and state police in reacting to the shootings.

He says random shootings is one of the worst scenarios police have to deal with, but the different agencies came together to catch the shooter within hours.
