Lawsuit Charges Violation Of The Safe Drinking Water Act Led To Flint Water Crisis

A group of activists have filed a lawsuit in federal court asking a judge to rule the state violated the Safe Drinking Water Act, which led to the Flint water crisis.

And the group wants the state to replace all of the lead pipes in the city at no cost to homeowners.

The suit cites the Act’s requirement that cities deliver safe drinking water to the public and says city and state officials disregarded those requirements and instead exposed people in Flint to a toxin that is devastating to the human body.

The Michigan ACLU, Natural Resources Defense Council, Concerned Pastors for Social Action and Flint resident Melissa Mays are all behind the suit.
