Legionnaries Disease Totals Updated

The state is updating the number of people who were infected with Legionnaires disease in Genesee County during an outbreak in 2014 and 2015.

The state Department of Health and Human Services says an additional person died of the disease.

In total, 10 people died of Legionnaires disease and 88 cases were reported in the two year stretch.

The DHHS has come under fire for not doing more when it was first informed about the uptick in Legionnaires disease cases.

While the state hasn’t been able to confirm the increase in the number of cases is tied to Flint’s lead contaminated water, the two do coincide.

According to the DHHS, 35 percent of the people infected drank Flint’s water while 30 percent did not.
