Local Comic Convention Expected to turn into Annual Event

After a successful turn out of a mini comic convention earlier this week, the two ladies who conceptualized the event are anticipating the probability of it becoming an annual happening.

‘The community came out in droves. And you know that’s just the whole point, we wanted this to cater to the community’s passion for comics and video games and gaming and film and we did this by highlighting the art and artists that are in this industry and across the industries and, oh my gosh it absolutely exceeded our expectations.’ Said, Shana Porteen, Owner of  Black Ice Comics, who co-founded the fund raiser with actress Patricia Summersett.

Austin Sullivan is a patron who attended and says he this type of event is good for the Keweenaw. ‘I think in this area it could be really beneficial if we get more events like this where creative people can come together. You know, there can be a lot of magic made there.’

All of the proceeds from theevent will benefit the Omega House.

“This was a great charity for us to kick off this event with and, I’ll tell you what, with everybody’s enthusiastic giving, it came off very very well and so we’re very proud of what we were able to raise for Omega House.” Said, Porteen.

Event co-Founder Patricia Summersett added “And it was also wonderful we had prominent businesses in the community that were able to donate things we had Radio ads sponsored by Keweenaw dental, we had an amazing electric guitar. We had a lot of people coming together to make this event more exciting with surprise gifts and stuff. And there would certainly be more of that to come if we did it again.”

The event also included a silent auction further benefitting the charity.
