3,000 Chickens Killed In Fire

Some 3,000 chickens are dead after a major fire at a farm in Baraga County on Saturday.

The fire happened at the Byler Family Farm in Pelkie when a barn when up in flames.

Firefighters battled the blaze for four hours but the structure was a total loss, as were the hens inside.

Another barn and a semi-trailer were also destroyed in the fire.

Farm owner Daniel Byler told TV 6 that it would take at least six months to get the farm up and running again with a cost of rebuilding the barn around $250,000.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the State Fire Marshall has been contacted.
