The late chairman of the Houghton County Board of Commissioners was honored yesterday.

A section of Airpark Boulevard leading to the Houghton County Memorial Airport was dedicated to the memory of Albert Koskela.

Current board chair Tom Tikkanen said Koskela was a champion of the airport…

He felt that it was one of the most vital elements of Houghton County, as far as its infrastructure and its positive impact on the community, si we felt that this was an appropriate spot for a memorial for him.

Koskela’s 10 years as county board chair was just part of his long record of service to the community. He passed away in April at the age of 81.
