Art Fair Held In Eagle Harbor

From photography to woodworking to jewelry, there was no medium left out of the 57th Annual Eagle Harbor Art Fair.

“We have 64 vendors and the artists come from all over the United States, a lot of them Wisconsin, Michigan and the Upper Peninsula and we have all different kinds of art, but it’s very creative,” said Eagle Harbor Art Fair Chairperson Linda Dodge.

The juried art show sees many of the same artists from year to year because they have discovered a fan base in the Copper Country.

One of these artists is Barry Dalberto, who has been making baskets out of wild grapevine and birch bark for 30 years.

“I’m either out in the woods, collecting, gathering, making or doing shows, or going fishing, one or the other. So, that’s what I do and I don’t know if I’ll be back up this far, ’cause now, I moved last fall and it’s about an eight hour drive, so this might be my swansong for this show and coming up to the Keweenaw,” said Dalberto.

In addition to the artists’ booths, the Cooper Country Art Association chooses a member to be the featured artist each year. This year’s featured artist was photographer John Dodge. Dodge photographs mostly landscapes in Florida and the Copper Country.

“It gets me outdoors and just the beauty, I mean, when you live up here in the Copper Country and the Keweenaw, you know, your subject is already made for you,” said Dodge. “It’s a beautiful area.”

Even if people don’t like looking at all the different art, there was plenty of food to go around, but Linda Dodge said the most important part is enjoying a beautiful day in the Keweenaw.

“That’s what we’re about,” said Linda Dodge. “For having a good day and enjoying each other and having a good time.”
