Aspirus Keweenaw accepting nominations for DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

The following press release was issued by Aspirus Keweenaw:

LAURIUM, Mich. – Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics are now accepting nominations for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics nurses may be nominated by patients, families and coworkers. Winners are chosen by a committee of Aspirus volunteers, auxiliary members and nurse leaders.

There are multiple ways to say thank you by sharing your story of how an Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics nurse made a difference you’ll never forget. Nomination boxes are located at all Aspirus locations in Laurium, Houghton and Lake Linden. Nominations can also be submitted online by visiting aspirus.org/daisyaward.

“Aspirus is honored to be among the healthcare organizations partnering with the DAISY Foundation,” said Grace Tousignant, Aspirus Upper Peninsula Regional Chief Nursing Officer. “Nurses are heroes every day. It’s important that they know their work is highly valued and the DAISY Award is a really nice way for us to do that.”

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide daily. Used in over 1,300 health care facilities, the DAISY Award was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP in 1999. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

DAISY Award winners will be recognized throughout the year with celebrations attended by their colleagues, administrative staff, patients, and visitors. Winners will also receive a daisy pin and special keepsake.
