August Ranger Programs for Kids at the Portage Lake District Library

Houghton, MI – In August, join an Isle Royale Naitonal Park or Keweenaw National Historical Park ranger for programs celebrating our local national parks. Programs are geared for families and youth ages 5 to 12. Programs are held on Tuesdays at 1 pm and average 45 minutes.

August Programs for kids at the Portage Lake District Library

  • August 1, Tuesday: Bees and a Beehive with Ranger Karl Larson. Have you ever seen inside a beehive? Become a bee and learn how bees are necessary for the fruits and vegetables we love!
  • August 8, Tuesday, 1 pm: Danger in the Food Chain with Ranger Lori Honrath. Watch what you eat. Watch who you eat. Watch out wildlife! There’s danger in the food chain.
  • August 15, Tuesday, 1 pm: Wolf Survival with Ranger Aerran Riley. The wolves of Isle Royale have faced many hardships. Now it’s your turn to face those hardships. Will you survive?
  • August 22, Tuesday, 1 pm: Become a Sandstone Scientist with Ranger Katie Keller. Sandstone is found here, there, and everywhere throughout the Keweenaw.  Investigate this amazing rock and become a sandstone scientist.
  •  August 29, Tuesday, 1 pm: Wildlife Connect 4 with Ranger Aerran Riley. Together, we’ll connect island wildlife to each other, even when they are predator and prey, hunter and hunted.text
