College Hockey

As expected, Augustana University will become the ninth team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Vikings will join the league in the fall of 2023, which will be their first season in NCAA Division One competition. They will play a limited schedule over their first two seasons, and begin full conference play in the fall of 2025.

Augustana is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It enrolls around 2,000 students. It will become Michigan Tech’s most distant conference opponent – slightly farther away than Bowling Green.

The Detroit Pistons will have the fifth pick in the upcoming NBA draft. At last night’s lottery drawing, the Magic claimed the first pick. The Thunder got the second selection, followed by the Rockets and Kings.

The Detroit Tigers’ four-game win streak ended with an 8-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays last night. Beau Brieske was hit hard, giving up six runs on nine hits before leaving in the sixth inning. Jeimer Candelario homered.

The Tigers visit the Rays again this afternoon. Eduardo Rodriguez will pitch against Drew Rasmussen. Coverage will begin at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

It appears that Detroit pitcher Michael Pineda will not need surgery to fix his broken finger. The best case scenario is that he could return to the rotation in a month.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Atlanta Braves 3-0 last evening. Adrian Houser took the tough-luck loss, giving up just a run on four hits over six innings.

The Brewers host the Braves again today. Corbin Burnes will start against Max Fried.

Milwaukee reliever J.C. Mejía has been suspended for 80 games after he tested positive for the steroid Stanozolol. Trevor Kelley has been called up from Nashville to take his place.
