CCISD Seeking Millage To Support CTE Program

The Copper Country Intermediate School District is urging residents to support its popular Career and Technical Education Program.

A millage of 1 mill for ten years is on the August ballot throughout the district.

CCISD Superintendent George Stockero said the CTE Program offers classes in Auto-Tech, Health Careers and Certified Nursing, as well as building trades and machine tool classes.

Stockero said the number of students taking advantage of the program over the last three years has increased, thanks in large part to a grant the CCISD received.  But without the millage, many students will have to be turned away if their local schools cannot pay the tuition.

The CCISD has a number of videos on their website and Facebook page to illustrate the importance of the CTE program.

You can also hear the entire interview with Stockero on this week’s episode of Copper Country Today.

Voting takes place on August 8th.

Here is the press release from the CCISD Board Meeting:

The Copper Country Intermediate School District Board of Education held a public hearing to discuss the proposed 2017-2018 budget, followed by its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 27, 2017.

REMC 1 System Engineers Dustin Eldridge and Kyle Timmerman gave the board a presentation on the new Copper Country ISD Website.  The old website had not been ADA compliant and needed some updating.  Previously, the CCISD had to hire an outside company to create and manage its website.  The ISD felt that they now had the necessary talent on staff to create and manage its own webpage.  The board was very impressed with the results.  Every department within the ISD had input on what would be on their individual web pages.  Superintendent Stockero pointed out that there is currently a specific web page explaining the CTE millage that is coming up on August 8.  Stockero stated that the web page contains videos of the current CTE programs, it explains what CTE is, what the goals are, how the public was involved in seeking the millage, the costs and much more.  Stockero encouraged the public to check out the new website at www.copperisd.org.

Stockero also shared with the board the CCISD’s new Career & Technical Education Facebook page. The Facebook page is called Copper Country Career and Technical Education. Stockero said that the CTE Facebook page is getting good traffic.  You will see many local CTE videos, along with other local CTE related stories.  What Stockero found the most rewarding with regards to the Facebook page was reading some of the posts from those who are following the Facebook page.  One former student posted, “When I was in high school, this was the main reason I got up and actually went to school each day, Auto-Tech!”  The Michigan Forest Products Counsel posted, “Copper Country CTE is doing some great things! Check them out!”
