Christmas Eve Fire At Lake Linden Apartments

An apartment fire in Lake Linden has several families displaced this Christmas.

The fire began around 5:30 Monday morning at the Gilles Apartments on M-26.

Six of the seven apartment units were occupied at the time of the fire, which apparently began in the front upstairs apartment where two teenage boys were staying with their grandmother, according to witnesses.

The boys received non-life threatening injuries when they jumped from the second story window to escape the fire.

Another tenant suffered smoke inhalation and a firefighter was reportedly injured while kicking in a door.

All of the other tenants are said to have made it out safely and are currently staying in area hotels or with friends or family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
